Everything I do starts with visual research.

The ability to fluently interpret abstract feelings from the visual world is crucial in the research and development of any effective design solution. Inspiration doesn’t spontaneously generate—it’s cultivated.

Through the organization and grouping of similar (or even unrelated) images, we begin to define the intangible. Patterns in approach, execution, and theme reveal themselves within the collection.

I use Pinterest to catalog images into visual collections based on form, theme, color, and material. It is a library which facilitates quick recollection, and has become a valuable, habitual exercise in how and why things are made.

Below are a selection of boards broken down into their underlying visual structures, used for analysis, inspiration, and design application.
